Spring is so close to being near here in Ohio as I gaze out my window I see the signs all around. The sun seems to shine a little longer and the cool familiar breeze circulates thru my home as the smell of mother earth comes in. The feeling of clearing out the old to start the new has made its wave into my home. Taking away the cobwebs of winter's past and bringing in the cleansing smell of lemon and thyme. For many pagans, it bares true that the sense of joy and optimism starts to grow fresh within our minds. As I think of this year and gear up for all I think it shall bring. I gazed upon the seeds sown by my father and nurtured by my mother which brings a new perspective to my year. Like many others who gather their seeds to plant into the ground to harvest upon the year. I think to myself of the seeds given to us that never die, but transform that is never forgotten yet get lost inside. Each of us has an individual who has touched our lives in one form or another. As we unknowingly carry them with us honoring the spirit they left within us and carrying it to the next.
There are many people in my life that I carry with me even though their time has passed. I found myself clinging to their energy. Finding ways to honor each one and until now I didn't fathom that impact. For me, cooking has always been such a special connection to the ones I love and honor in remembrance. Unlocking memories of smells and tastes that have long been forgotten.Until the aroma brings upon floods of memories, like waves crashing against the shore. It's those small things we cling to and yet become a part of us as we grow into who we are. Seeing those things transform and evolve with us and time. My love for cooking was bestowed upon me by my father. But the understanding of just not what we make at hand was something gained with time. The way we each view food is different and you can learn a lot about one's self and others just by how you cook.
For some, it's a sense of control and knowing that in one way or another, it can be success or disappointment. While others see it more as a burden and a sense of loss and defeat. For some, it's a language of love and intent that holds true. If you cook in anger that energy will manifest into the creation before you. But when you cook with love and intent no matter if it's not presentation perfect the flavor will shine thru. This is what I love most about the aspect of cooking and my magickal path. I can alter a mood with not only the energy infused but the properties of the ingredients combined. The same could be made true for working in hast which can lead to a mistake. But with patience and intent manifesting can be achieved not only by the eyes but the body itself.
When looking at recipes handed down from generation to generation you can see the magickal workings in the fine print. A dash of this and a sprinkle of that all forms of intuitive kitchen witchery at its best. As spring creeps up we manifest not only our intent but the vibrations we wish to keep. As we bring forth ingredients to our dish we manifest the seeds of the year to grow. But these are not for us, they are for those we surround ourselves with as we unknowingly give them part of us. That part to carry on no matter who they meet to tell later one to someone down the street. To laugh and chuckle as you enjoy and cry when you remember their favorite recipe. So this year take this to heart and share those recipes that remind you of those who are now depart.
