Color Magick Personal Association

Today is day three of my series on paganism from my personal perspective and practices.I want to start this off by saying that this is based off of my personal practice and how I use color magick within it. Down below I have tagged a few references that will help guide you after reading this article.

When it comes to color magick and color associations its one of the most talked about things especially when it comes to candle magick. Now depending on who you ask you will get a variety of answers as to what works for what type of magick you are doing. You will also see alot of similarities when it comes to references on color associations. One of the most common association you will see across the board is pink being associated with love. But how is it that these colors got associated with certain emotions. Some will say that it is societal influence while others say its simple color psychology. When in reality its a mixture of the two things along with the individual practitioner. This is something that I have brought up in circles more than once and has been met with some tribulation.

How could something so simple as colors or lack of color bring upon such a heated debate of discussion? Well its because we get use to the societal factor and the advancement within the field of psychology. Its not uncommon for businesses to use color psychology to invoke certain emotions. That have been proven to have the affect on most of the general population from the studies conducted. This is why for instance when you see red one of two things will come to mind either seduction or a warning.Hence why its common to see stop signs or traffic lights use red as a stopping association.

Now while I dont dismiss the color associations for things along with the effect it has based on research. I also take in to consideration the individual experience when it comes to colors and their affects on the individual. Think about it we all have a favorite color that symbolises happiness for us. It may change over the years, but the feeling one gets from either seeing that color or wearing it remains the same. Perhaps we take the opposite approach and you think of a color that brings anger towards you. This could be because you associate that color with a traumatic event or just have always had a natural disdain for it. Each color we see in our day to day carries a certain energy with it. Just like anything else around us does and certain energies mesh well with others while some dont. This is why in my personal practice I created my own reference of what I associate colors with. It not only adds my own personal touch to my practice but it also uses the energy I associated and receive from that color.

So lets say for instance one of the colors i cant stand is pink, why would I use that color for love work if I cant stand it. That means when im doing the work the energy I put out will not match the intent that im trying to manifest. Which in the end will messes up the work that I am trying to bring to life. Instead I would use a red and green candle or if im making a candle it would be a combination of the two colors swirling together.Because for me green is a symbol of comfort and happiness while red is love and compassion and romance for me. So by combining two colors I associate with my own emotions it helps manifest the work im trying to achieve. But If I want to achieve happiness and confidence within myself I would use or wear white. Because its something that I know looks good on me and brings me happiness and confidence. When it comes to color association its not just one area of the practitioners life its a combination of all aspects. From what you wear to your home decore all the way to the color you decide to change your hair to.

Color magick and its affects can be either damaging or invigorating depending upon the individual. For some individuals there are colors they stray from due to a string of bad luck they may have had. Example of this would be if you get a car a certain color and you get in a accident. The likely hood of you getting another car matching that color you had a negative experience in would be unlikely. Especially if lets say a couple years down the road you get the same color car you where in a accident in. Only to have another accident happen and when you start to look at the color association. You grow a fear towards that color and refuse to have a car that color again. A less traumatic association is when you wear a certain color and its nothing but bad luck. It always seems to happen when you are wearing that color and you just dont understand why. But you make the conscious decision not to wear it because it has never been a good day when you wear that color. Its things like this that is the reason I tell students to make a list of colors and energy they associate with each one. Every year make a new list, some may have changed on the energy you associate while others remain the same.

The best part about doing this in your practice is it makes it personal for you and doesnt feel like its forced. You’re more likely to remember the color associations because its based off of your feelings towards it. Which helps you when you are trying to create a spell either on the fly or in a desperate time of need. It can be overwhelming for some to have to go check a book, references or such every time they need to do some work. It could even possibly stop a individual from doing workings just because of the daunting task. Which to someone who is organized and doesnt struggle with decision making. This concept of being overwhelmed seems obscured. But practitioners must be aware that the mind has the same basic functions for all, but not all minds work the same way. Some times the simplest of tasks can seem monumental to some while a breeze for others. It’s something that is commonly overlooked when it comes into magickal practices. Because we are taught to force our minds into submission to reach a state of calm. But this is not always achievable for many practitioners because their minds do not work the same ways as others.
